About

The goal of the Mission Marketing web site is to provide information and education on marketing communications best practices to small and medium sized nonprofits to help them grow and better fulfill their missions.

After doing some freelance marketing copywriting and designing I got a job as grant writer for a nonprofit. I was amazed at the number of grant applications that required marketing materials as attachments. I soon realized that well produced marketing materials confer legitimacy and stability to the nonprofit. Marketing materials help organizations look real and make the grant maker a little more comfortable with simply giving money to someone they may not know or may have never seen.

Large organizations can afford to hire a freelancer or even a full-time staff member to produce the necessary marketing materials. Small to medium sized nonprofits are operating on shoestring budgets and can’t afford to produce and then update the full range of marketing communications.  Most grants fund programs and services but not marketing.  So, many small nonprofits find it difficult to grow and move to the next level.  And so it becomes a self perpetuating cycle. Not large enough to hire a person to produce marketing materials so therefore cannot compete for grants to get big enough to hire someone to produce marketing materials.  If you are running a small to medium sized nonprofit, you are already stretched thin and probably don’t have time to design and write a newsletter, create brochures, update the website or send out a monthly email message.

I want to provide real solutions to busy nonprofit professionals and say that creating high-quality marketing communications is easier than you think.  Just stay tuned to this website as I add more solutions because Mission Marketing is all about nonprofit marketing made easy.
